 actually, i have my husband to thank for that little thunderbolt to the brain... he found a new outlet for my harry potter mania: GAME CUBE! and since I am the world's worst player of video games, I had to sit through the conversation between Aragog and Harry about twenty-seven times last night, and eventually it hit me that Aragog was raised in a cupboard... how common is it for people/animals to be raised in cupboards? I think, if this is of any importance, there are two possibilities.

1. Aragog is an automatic reference to Aragorn of LOTR for me, only with a bit of evil thrown in (Gog and Magog of Biblical lore). In LOTR, Aragorn is the rightful king, and eventually takes his place as leader. So I'm kinda followin an Aragorn-Aragog-Harry similarity here.

2. i forgot the second thing... i'll post if i remember  like i said... gettin daft in my old age

Well, my experience is that cupboards are good places to hide things, and Aragog is certainly something to be hidden!

So I'm kinda followin an Aragorn-Aragog-Harry similarity

:???: :???: :???: Come again?

I think that both Harry and Aragog were "raised" in a cupboard because they were supposed to be kept secret (for different reasons)

I watched the film the other day and noticed that Nick is floating around and sayss hello to Percy and Miss Clearwater. This is the only hint that Percy has a girlfriend in the film and could quite easily have been left out. What if Miss Clearwater becomes more important in book 6 - maybe Percy elopes.

yeah, but in the movie, did they even mention that Penelope was petrified, or did they just have the bit about Hermione? I'll go look after Cameron's done with yet another Barney tape...

Just for kicks, let's think about another Penelope for a moment, and try to guess the fate of Percy

Somewhere in the Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter, by Galadriel Waters, it is mentioned that the name Penelope is derived from some mythology (I admit, I lost the place where it mentions it. I'll post when I find it). Anyway, that Penelope would draw a man in and kill him, have him killed, something like that... Is Percy in trouble?

They didn't mention Penelope being petrified, just Hermione.

I thought Penelope was the bride of Hades.

I haven't Seen the 2nd movie. Was Mrs. Weasley's clock in there.

It would be funny if it was the pudding incident during his uncles deal making dinner.

nah, that's not a small bit... the events surrounding that include Dobby's visit and the letter from the ministry when the Dursleys find out Harry can't do magic at home...

I didn't think they mentioned Penelope being petrified in the second movie...

I still havent' bothered to find out what I read about Penelope's name, but I promise, soon as I find it, I'll let you know.

Penelope means silent worker. In Homer's epic 'Odyssey' this is the name of the wife of Odysseus, forced to fend off suitors while her husband is away fighting at Troy.

Perhaps she has a few admirers while Percy is on Ministry business. :)
