**Athena I think you meant Lupin as the warewolf

I agree, i'm not quite sure how I pictured him...kinda like a small blue child(fat) with impish features :-D I guess it's up to our imaginations...

About Peeves- Poltergiests are a type of ghosts and thanks to everyone for looking it up:) But Peeves does have some intersting qualities that interest me. He's decribed in PS as "a little man with wicked dark eyes and a wide mouth sitting cross-legged....." so he takes the shape of a man. If he's never been human do you think he's jealous and thats why he plays pranks on all the students and teachers? The other thing is that humans do seem to be able to exercise some control over him. I mean when Percy says "Peeves- show yourself" Peeves appears as if he had no choice. But we see numerous times how peeves doesn't listen when students ask him things (to be quiet for instance). He is persuaded by Nick somewhere to smash a cabinet over Filch's office, and he also follows Fred and Georges instruction to "Give her hell". I don't know, he just seems like an interesting character.

I've pictured peeves as one of the trio in Casper too! However it bugs me because in the film their mean't to be ghosts. However it does say in the descriptions of poltergeists that they are like ghost who just fool around- again mirroring the trio in Casper.

Mayb Jk describes ghosts to be spirits who just monder earth with intention to live whereas poltergeists have intentions to cause mischeif. :???: However Myrtle must have intentions of mischief towards Olive Hornby.

i'm too tired...... :???: ......

About Peeves following orders, the only being Peeves absolutely follows orders from is the Bloody Baron. Everyone else, it's like he does it if he wants to. He loves the idea of giving Umbridge hell, so he follows those orders with glee. Come to think of it, I don't think Fred and George hold Peeves in quite the same contempt as the rest of the students do. Wonder if they've worked together before?

With Percy telling him to show himself, I don't think he really has to. Everyone who knew Peeves knew it was him, so not showing himself really wouldn't have made much of a difference.

He seems to take orders to cause mischeif a lot better than orders to behave himself. Which is why, like I said, I think he's more than happy to listen to Fred and George, and also Nearly Headless Nick. But when it comes to behaving himself, the only person he'll usually listen to is the Bloody Baron (or who he THINKS is the Bloody Baron, as in P/SS when Harry pretends under the Invisibility Cloak to be the Baron).

I also think he has to listen somewhat to Dumbledore as Headmaster of Hogwarts...I mean look at when Filch screamed that he finally had an excuse to have Dumbledore get rid of him(smashing cabinet...I want to say PoA) and in GoF some says Dumbledore keeps him around cause he likes him :-D

Sorry, I thought that was kind of a given... Peeves has to (somewhat) follow Dumbledore's orders, but we really don't have many instances at all where we see Dumbledore telling him to behave...

Wonder if Dumbledore realizes that Peeves is loyal? Like, he knows that if something happens like what happened in OotP, that Peeves would turn against any other headmaster... ?

I´ve always wondered why Dumbledore keeps Peeves at the castle, hes is a lot more of a nausiance (sp?) that he is helpfull, in fact, he is only useful in PoA to help identify Sirius and in OotP to give Umbridge a hard time.

Yeah, but he is helpful in those respects... sure it's not often, but he does shine through a few times...

It's a little like Trelawney, I think... Dumbledore knows that 99% of the time, she is completely batty, but every now and then, she does something extremely useful, so he keeps her around...

About 99% of the time, Peeves is a major pain in the rump, but once in a long while, he does do something that redeems him.

Yeah, I think he just keeps Peeves for the heck of it...I don't think Dumbledore wants to have a school that's just plain boring...and if he keeps Peeves it adds a bit of chaos into the picture...besides I agree with Athena that Peeves is much more loyal than we all think.

Well, I have no doubt about Peeves loyalty and the "just for fun" theory is prety good, knowing Dumbledore.
