Clear Sirius' name

I didn't know where to put this but it's kinda a theory...

I'm not quite sure about this but when Harry was naming all the Death Eaters he would have had to name Peter Pettigrew wouldn't he? Besides once Harry's Quibbler interview was proven correct wouldn't people have to take everything he said in that as correct? Did he include Sirius? Not that it matters now for poor Sirius but I think it would be important to Harry that his memory is preserved correctly.

Sorry if this was covered in the books and I missed it, but if not; do people know the truth about Sirius Black? If not how soon will it be until they do?

you know I don't think they would ever believe him about Sirius...I mean could you imagine if some teenage boy started to declare some criminal like Jack the Ripper or Ted Bundy as being framed and innocent? It would be pretty hard to believe, no matter how true it just might be.

Did petigrew turn up in the department of mysteries at the end of book 5? cause if so then that would pretty much clear sirius' name and prove what harry say's to be true

No, Pettigrew didn't feature at all in OotP. However, he will appear in book 6 I think, so that may help Sirius' case.

Aside from that, Sirius would also have Dumbledore to vouch for him, not just Harry.

And well to be fair if sirius had been there fighting against the death eaters which can be vouched for by a LOT of people then that can definately help his case right?

Maybe a statement from the Ministry will clear Sirius's name and to tell the wizarding world of the real truth about the Death Eaters identities etc.

I hope so. Maybe that's one of the things that'll have to be dealt with in the next book. Maybe it'll cause more tabloid uproar...

Yeah, I don't think it was ever mentioned... however, when Fudge released a statement regarding Voldemort's return, the breakout at Azkaban, and the out-of-control dementors, he did in a roundabout way let us know that at least one accusation made against Sirius wasn't true (he doesn't try to blame Sirius for the breakout anymore)...

I'm sure by the beginning of next school year, after the story has gone through the rumor mill, people will have heard the truth. I agree with Meg, though, that not everyone will really believe that he's back...

About Harry's interview with the Quibbler, that is a very interesting question... if he had mentioned Pettigrew being there, that would really almost immediately put Sirius in the clear (because, after all, why would an innocent man hide out as a rat for 12 years?)... hmmm......
