Why Flitwick?

Postby Enchanter » Friday 26 August 2005 1:24:02am

At the end of HBP McGonagall say's she sent Flitwick to get Snape. In CoS we learn that Flitwick was once a champion at dueling. If Flitwick was so great at duelling why in the world would McGonagall send him away?

A Fight isn't a dual. Just because the wee man was good at a dueling match doesn't meet he can handle loads of Death Eaters at once.

Maybe he was the only one handy?

But it's a good question. Deserves some thought.

I think the problem was if McGonagall actually thought that Snape might be trouble, and he might join the DE in this fight, and that's why he sent Flitwick, who happened to be a great duelist, to face him, to see on what side he is. But I seriously doubt that she actually suspected Snape. Or as far as I can remember nobody thought he might be evil, and when he showed up they didn't even noticed him, and let him easily pass by.

I would think that it was a random thing... JKR just thought of a teacher that should be at hand...to go after snape... BUt then... how many things are random and not carefully choosen... We never know...

I'm just under the impression I posted this before... just can't remember deleting the post or having problems when posting... So I wonder what happened to it?? :???:

I doubt that these are things which you can easily forget. I mean it's like riding the bike. And since Flitwick is the Charms proffessor I think he is still good at casting spells. After all duels are based on spell casting, right?

I disagree, We seem to hear a lot about how charms work very well for defence purposes. I think she sent Flitwick because he was good and would be able to defend himself.

I think he will become more important to the storyline as Harry starts to embrace charms in the final book. JKR said it was important that Lily's wand was good for charms so Flitwick must come into play more in the final chapter I reckon.

PS, I think some of the posts were lost recently due to server problems.

I do like the theory that Harry will use Lily's wand in the final book. He still has to work hard to improve his duelling, but I don't think that it will come down to his duelling ability in the end.

It may have something to do with Lily's wand, but I think that there will be something else that hp will suddenly realise will work. I think he'll finally get away from lucky guess work and more talented friends.

hmm I do hope so but I reckon a little more help from his friends or at least Hermione will certainly help.

He will confide in R and H about the locket, Hermione will remember Regulas and then will connect the old locket they found, then she will think about Kreacher storing stuff and maybe Mundungus nicking stuff, but I think she will also remember stuff from a "History of Magic" that might help Harry, Something relating to that will be a useful charm, Harry will go to Flitwick for training on that charm - oh I have a wild imagination today!!!
