Permissions in Common room for the debates

Postby Gwared » Friday 26 March 2004 11:05:08pm

Hey Paul,

Me and Alice have been having fun with permissions in the common rooms. Is it true that only moderators of a forum have the ability to make threads sticky or announcements, in which case...is it possible to edit this for the common rooms so the debate mods can post their topics without worrying about them dissappearing?

Yes, only moderators can create stickies or announcements in the forums that they moderate. There may be a way I can let the board allow Debate moderators to create Stickies or Announcements in the Common Rooms by using some kind of usergroup way of doing it - I'll try some experiments and see how it turns out.

Ack - well, I've tried, but even with a lot of fiddling around with creating new usergroups, it doesn't look like it can be done...I'm sorry. The only thing I can suggest is that if you create a thread that you want to be made into a sticky or announcement, just ask a Prefect to change it to a announcement or sticky (which they can do by editing the post and selecting the announcement or sticky radio-button) and I'm sure one of the Prefects will be happy to help. :-)

I know this thread is old, but why were the debate things "closed" anyways? Seems kind of odd that everyone just stopped posting there.

I gather that sometimes the debates in question were occasionally the type that wouldn't involve everyone here.

Maybe there was a debate over something in a particular country or whatever...

No idea...

But it's a good idea. I don't see why we couldn't just start up a thread to debate over as long as we have someone to keep it under control.
