Did You Like The Movies?

Postby Hermione » Monday 10 February 2003 7:34:48pm

Well, the title is pretty self-explanatory. Did you like the movies? Which one was your favorite? Your least favorite? Why?

I have to admit, I was more than a little disappointed in the movies. I felt that they left out too much of what made the books so good. For instance, Percy, Neville, Fred, and George are among the most vivid characters in the book, and they only have a few obligatory lines in rhe movies. Where's Percy's pompousness? Fred and George's playfulness? What about Neville's forgetfulness? Much of J.K. Rowling's wit was left out in the movies, and replaced by empty, saccharine lines or scenes. For instance, where everybody gives Hagrid a standing ovation- I like the book's ending a lot better, or when Harry falls out of the car.

But what I thought they did really well was the scenery, and the selection of the cast . . . though some of them can't really act (I know, I can't act myself, so I can't criticize), they're still perfect for their roles: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Richard Harris . . . the guy who played Lucius Malfoy- oh yes, Jason Issacs.

I still count myself a die-hard Harry Potter fan, though, despite everything. All right. Enough of my babble. Any other opinions?

hmmm. i thought they were both good- SS was only pretty good, but CoS was AWESOME!!! it was so much better than SS and really really good! :D i saw it 3xs in the theaters...

hermione- well, you can't really expect the movies to be as good as the books. but i felt they did a good job, despitet he fact that they couldn't put in as much detail. :)

Well, the Eowyn/Aragorn relationship thing was written in the books though maybe it wasn't as pronounced as it was in the movies.

I guess Peter Jackson's thinking:
Movies won't sell unless they have
1) Action
2) Adventure
3) Romance

I thought the movies were okay. That may just be because I am very harsh when judging movies based on books. After I saw cos I would go on forever about the differences between the movie and the book. The fact that they skip the little things is what is really getting to me. They take out things that would take hardly any time at all to put in or they just don't pay attention to the details from the book. I'm not sure if I want to see the future movies because I wasn't that happy with the movies so far. I'll probably see them anyways. I'll be to curious.

I will say that the movies are improvings. The actors/actresses seem to have gotten the feel for thier characters so that makes the movies better.

well, I loved the movies. There were true to the books despite having to leave some stuff outfor time considerations. But i watched HP after going to see the LOTR Movie, and they just totally stuffed up the movie, by puting so much emphasis on things that weren't important, whilst leaving leads of other important stuff out. So, in comp, HP did much better!

I'd go so far as to say that it is the only movie where the book is accurately portrayed and thus as good as the book!
*Not counting "The Princess Bride" of course. The only movie that is BETTER than the book!*

I loved the movies. And if they were 6hours long - would be even better... :D However, noone xcept for me and couple of fans would want that. Kids would like fall asleep.

So....considering that they have limited budget, and limited time - they did awsome.

One more thing: I started reading books because i saw preview for the movie, and i know im not the only one, so Yeah, they did pretty good.

Im sure that every time they make a new movie it will be better than the previous one. :D

I loved the HP movies!!! The books of course were better than the movies. I'm convinced that for really good books that's the way it is.

And I have to say that I disagree, I don't think the Arwen/Aragorn relationship was overdone. I got the impression from the book that their relationship was deep and complicated. It's just that in the book there's so much going on and in the movie there's not enough time so they have to throw stuff in to get the message across that they are serious about on another. If they didn't, how could they justify Arwen staying with Aragorn at the end?
