casting actors -your choice

Postby Nightcrawler » Sunday 30 May 2004 2:32:53pm

If YOU could place any actor in any role in the HP films, who would you choose and why?

Would you replace Harry, Neville, Voldermort or Lupin or any other character?

Who would you repelace them with?

Why?

Just thought this might be a fun game to play.

...Personally, I would cast the role of Sirius Black to... James Marsters.

Who is that you ask? Well JM is the guy who plays Spike on Buffy.

Why would I choose him? Well if anyone watches Buffy or Angel, I'm sure they will imediatly understand what I mean. To say that Marsters's acting range is big would be like saying that Delta Goodrem is "okay looking". Due to this guy's amazing acting skills, Spike has become a popular favourite among fans of the Buffyverse and the character has evolved so much over the years, this guy can play any role.
Spike has been:

The wimpy loser (before becoming a vampire),

The run of the mill average vampire (known as "William the Bloody" before he bleached his hair and became "Spike"),

The comic relief (he has had some of the funniest lines ever),

The evil, cruel, sadistic villian (the Spike from S2 we all know and love. A total badass.),

The hopeless romantic, (always falling for the wrong girl. Once referred to himself as "love's b!tch"),

The dangerously charming guy,

The selfish *cough* "hero" (still inherently evil, however does many good deeds because he wants others to like him. This is a stage Spike went through when he was physiclly incapable of hurting humans),

The confused, angsty, immature "son" (and ep where he loses his memory),

The raving lunatic (after getting his soul back so that he could be a "good man" Spike had to face some serious guilt over all the evil he has done over the years. It bassicly drove him crazy and IMO his skills in this role were bettered by nobody. It was so sad, yet at the same time spouted som great one liners. "Im insane. What's his excuse?"),

The champion. (When he learned to deal with his guilt, he was able to do some good and even sacrificed his own life in the final episode in order to save the world. He still depends on his "badass" side to an extent, but ultimetly, he is a good guy).

I would cast him as Sirrius because Sirrius has many of the qualities of Spike. In PoA, the audience sees Sirrius as a cruel, evil character until it is later revealed that he is innocent. Sirrius does hava a bit of a cruel side (as seen in Snape's memory) and is rash to make decisions and usually sticks by them no matter what the means are. (I believe that Sirrius was in Slytheryn) His love and respect of Harry was the only thing that could prevent him from murdering Wormtail. The character of Sirrius is ultimetly a "good guy", but he does have many "dark" qualities. He can be immature at times, sometimes he is selfish and.... after twelve years in a place where all the happiness has been sucked out of the air, I'm sure the guy would have issues. He will be a little crazy I'm sure. JM plays Spike brilliantly, so I'm sure taking on the role of Sirrius would have been a peice of cake. Oh yeah and...

***Spoiler****

***Seriously dudes, a spoiler is coming up***

***I mean it!***

***Fine, see if I care  ***

Sirrius sacrifices himself to save Harry too. Just like Spike did. (Spike came back on Angel, but that's different... ) The self-sacrifice was quite a defining point in the evolotion of Sirrius's character. This is a scene that MUST be done perfectly. (Spike's "sacrifice" was done perfectly, however it was totally cheapened when he just "came back" like that.)

***End Spoiler***

***You can open our eyes now***

(Mods, I put a spoiler tag on that for the courtesy of those who haven't yet read OotP so pleeeeeease don't delete my thoughts. Anyone with brains will scroll right past the spoiler, and it has been over a year.)

Also, JM looks like Sirrius. He has the haunted hollow looking face that Sirrius has and with a beard and a wig/hairpeice or even if he grew his hair, he would look exactly like him. Garry Oldman looks totally different to what I pictured Sirrius. But then again, that's just my opinion.

Recently I learned that James Marsters is from California. I was VERY surprised, because his British accent that he uses for Spike is perfect.

I havn't seen Garry Oldman in anything, so I won't judge him a Sirrius just yet. Hopefully he will be good. But all the same... JM will always be Sirrius to me :( I'll just have to wait and see.

Whoa, I didn't expect to babble on for that long.

So, uh, are there any actors/actresses you would cast for any HP role?

I think that JM is a little too young to play Sirius but I think that Gary Oldman is too old. I think that your reasoning for JM makes a lot of sense and if he were able to look older in the movies then I would agree that he would be a good Sirius Black. But honestly I pictured him as more of a Remus Lupin.....But Gary Oldman is an excellent actor and I don't doubt his acting abilities in the role but he looks a tad to old for the part.

I was reading the interview with the actor who plays Lupin (David T)

Rove: Well what about this one. Going into Harry Potter, they have already made the two films, it is a very well known franchise…where you at all apprehensive going into it?
David: Not really, although I kind of went into a few chat rooms to research the character and a lot of the kids were very abrasive about me playing the character, because they didn’t know me, they wanted Jude Law, or Ewan McGregor or someone more handsome basically.

 so some of the actors actually read what we think about them X_x lol, i feel totally bad now X.X

I agree about Gary Oldman... he did a fine job, but I thought Sirius was only in his thirties? Oldman's 46.
