Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I heard something on the radio the other day that caught my attention. It said that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will be the MOST EXPENSIVE MOVIE EVER MADE! So I looked into it, and I found a snippet of an article. Lookie!

"Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" will reportedly hold the title of "most expensive movie ever made," according to British news sources. The fourth installment of the fantasy series based on the best-selling books by J.K. Rowling will join the ranks of previous "most expensive" title holders "Titanic" and "Pearl Harbor."

Warner Bros. will pony up a hefty sum -- approximately $130 million, $36 million more than the budget for "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" -- for the latest Potter adventure, directed by Mike Newell.

Newell is not taking the massive budget nor his filmmaking responsibilities lightly.

"These things are not like ordinary films. They are world events," he explains. "I have millions of 10-year-olds who must not be disappointed. Making 'Harry Potter' is like being President of Brazil. It is a colossal undertaking."

Whoa, thats cool. Thats also a lot of money, but then again, i can believe that, since they have to do all the tri-wizard stuff. I just dont know how they will be able to do the movie without it being too long, i believe it will be AS long as the third LOTR, or maybe even longer....even though if it is, there might not be a lot of ppl willing to watch it.

i know that it will make the film great and everything, but i just dont think that that much money should be spent on a film, when i think that there are loads of things that deserve the money so much more.

well, you say people won't watch it, but they will, i mean millions saw RotK on the first weekend, it'll do fine

Well, maybe the reason that they are spending that much is that they know that we are going to want to see it because in the 2nd movie, it made more money than they first one and if they think that the money they are going to make is going to increase then they might as well spend some more money to make the movies more better so they can "rake in the money"

And another is because of the props and graphics and coustumes and yadda yadda...

yeah, i mean when you think about it, now that they are using generated castles, it will be more expensive, and just the sheer magnitude of the story, not to mention the world cup, dragons, maze, merfolk, etc., etc., etc.

just knowing that they're putting absolutely everything that they can into this film makes me excited to see it, and PoA isn't even out yet! Speaking of PoA.... doesn't this put a lot of pressure on Cuaron? WB could have emptied its pockets significantly towards GoF by the time PoA comes out. What if it flobs? <oh please don't let it suck, please don't let it suck>
I just hope they aren't putting too much towards this movie before they know if the HP series will remain a success. I know it will do fine no matter what, but imagine if it does badly- WB doesn't make as much money as it predicted- they decide that less money goes to GoF- Newell has already spent a lot of it- so half of the movie is amazing, while the other half is in black and white!(an exaggeration, I know)
