I like the movie but there are some things i don´t like: There is only the plot no space for anything else, it was a bit short and if you don´t know the book it´s hard to understand. The dementors can´t fly!!!!!!!!

I haven't posted in awhile but alas, I too was a little bit disappointed in PoA.

It was too rushed, and there were too many details -like the Sirius/Lupin reunion- that were deleted. One reviewer (Roger Ebert?) spoke in his review of the director having to make, "painful choices." I was especially disappointed that the effort Harry had to go through to finally get his patronus to emerge, was rushed over (like he got it in one lesson) and the lack of connection with the patronus to James was disappointing too.

I disagree though that had it been longer people wouldn't have seen it. Both of my kids sat through LOTR/ROTK and they were only 7 and 5. Folks would sit for another 30-40 minutes of PoA which might make for some nice detail inclusion that would have helped.

I wondered if there was a clue or two in the film, particularly in the scene where Lupin spoke very harshly/"fatherly" to Harry about not honoring his parents' sacrifice with his reckless actions. I liked the casting of Daniel Thewlis as Lupin because he's not supposed to be too handsome. Even the book points that out with his ragged clothes and prematurely gray hair. Thewlis is an excellent actor (see Seven Years in Tibet) and I think he will do well in the upcoming films as his role expands.

LOVED Emma Thompson as Professor Trelawney!

I liked the humour and the darker atmosphere, but... oh gods, it was so rushed! As little as 10 minutes should have been enough to be added, just to explain some things.

Before seeing the movie, I read some parody on it and I almost laughed during the Shack-scene, because it was almost exactly like the parody:

LUPIN [rushing in]: Harry, no! EXPELLIARMUS!

THE KIDS: Lupin!

SIRIUS: Remus!

LUPIN: Sirius!

SIRIUS: Hug!

HERMIONE: Werewolf!

RON AND HARRY: What?

SNAPE: BLACK!

THE KIDS: Snape!

SNAPE: EXPELLIARMUS!

LUPIN: Noooo!

SIRIUS: Pettigrew!

THE KIDS: What?

SIRIUS: Map!

LUPIN: Dead!

SIRIUS: No!

LUPIN: Yes!

SIRIUS: No!

LUPIN: Yes!

SIRIUS: No!

LUPIN: Yes!

SNAPE: Christ, you two bicker like an old married couple.

:D :D :D By the way, Voldemort seems to look like a dementor... or dementors look exactly like Voldemort? :-?

I'm quite disappointed by the movie, but I loved the change of setting, it's so beautiful now. And the kids (actors) are getting better and better (at least Emma, Rupert and Tom).

I agree with you - I also think that they cut out bits due to the age of viewers - harry and friends are growing up and alot of readers are too.

First time i saw it, i was disappointed coz i was comparing it to the book and was thinking about what's there and what they left out but the second and third time i saw it, i really enjoyed it, i think its a good movie, though they missed some good parts, but its a movie after all and they cannot put everything in there, although, i don't mind a 6 hour movie looooool  ..

Makes me think, HOW ON EARTH are they gonna do GOF?!!! :???:

I vomited so much the first time that I couldn't see it the second. That would have to be the worst movie that I had ever seen in the whole of my life. It was even worse than Happy Gilmore and I HATE that movie. I didn't even like one thing of the movie. If they are going to put in the credits, "a movie based on the books, etc, etc" then IT SHOULD BE BASED ON THE BOOKS!,

I, too, am a bit of a book purist and was painfully disappointed at how far away from the novel the movie strayed. I can not count the amount of times I wanted to pinch Kloves and Cuarón for the mutilation of such a great novel. But, alas, what can I do? I am but one of millions. I wasted my money on the first viewing of the film, but refused to put forth another dime there after. Of course, when it comes to dvd, I'll buy it. At least I know I'm not alone when my children were in agreement that they didn't like it as well.

So am I, but when I saw it the second time, it wasn't that bad. I just let the book go out of my mind and it was okay.

I figure in about ten or twenty years they'll realize that these really are quality books and not just a fad and then they'll do the movies right. Each book will be made into like a miniseries for BBC or A&E and then all will be well with the world. Like watching the BBC / A&E version of Pride and Prejudice verses the old one with Lawrence Olivier(sp) Such a differnce :)

I loved the movie. Wish they could have put more into it but, we have to remember they could not have made it a 5 hour movie just to get it all in. I do wonder how much of the GoF is going ot be condensed. But over all I thought it was excelent.

the movie is branching out a bit from the books. cuaron is brave to do it, but it is a good movie. its not trying to stay true to the books entirely, and it will always fail if it tries that. the movie is separate, and isnt too bad for all that.

anyway, there might be a second load of them in 20 years time, like there was with LotR. there was one film of all of them, but it was reall bad. but, if the people try and make an effort to make the movie good, and stop trying to make money like they are now, they will make a movie which is true to hte books.

What I really did not like was the fact that they shortened the scene in the shrieking shack so much that it was just as long as the time turner scene. Maybe it's just me, but I really have a problem with every kind of "and then they went back in time to fix everything" ending. It's just so old and the only reason I really liked PoA in spite of that was the really good scene in the shrieking shack. When I read the book, I had the feeling that the final confrontation of Lupin, Sirius, Wormtail the kids and Snape was the climax of the book, whereas the movie left the impression that those action scenes with the thing that was meant to be a werewolf and the timetravel were the most important parts. And that's just a big no for me.
