I found the stag(movie spoilers)

Postby menotyoo » Monday 7 June 2004 6:42:24pm

When Sirius and Lupin hug in the Shrieking Shack and talk, what is it that Lupin says? I heard "I found the stag" which is the only reference to James Potter's ability as an animagus in the whole film, and later we see Prongs w/ Harry's patronus. This idea, i guess, is mainly a thought in connection w/ JKR's statement that there are things coming in the next 2 books that were foreshadowed in the movie by Cuaron's intuition.
Does anyone have thoughts on what the foreshadowings may be?(like maybe Lupin/Lily...cuz of the bridge scene) it doesn't have to do with that quote i mentioned, but what are peoples' ideas?

I don't remember hearing Lupin's words in the Shrieking Shack. Sorry I am a bit deaf  Especially someone seated beside me was practically crounching with fear and jerking the seats. She scared me with her scream when Trelawney did the prediction.

But was it mentioned in the books that Lily helped Lupin before? Because I don't think I saw it at all. In the movie, Lupin said Lily was kind to him, but why? Surely, James, Sirius, Peter, Snape and Lily were the only ones to know about Remus's werewolf identity, provided James told Lily. There were no one else, who at that period, knew it as well. So what is with that "kind" issue?

The scene with Lupin and Harry on the bridge, talking about Lily...it was kind of strange. I was just waiting for Lupin to come out and admit his undying love for Harry's deceast mom....

I had an interesting theory...but I just completely forgot it...
I'll get back to you.

Yeah, I kept expecting that to happen as well. If I had been Harry, I would've thought, Lupin talking about my mother in that manner would be somewhat akward. I'd be at least somewhat suspicious.

No, but it was odd, but I don't think it really went beyond friendship - or else the screenplay is really getting wild!

I didn't hear 'the stag' bit in the Shreiking Shack but next time I see it, I'll listen really closely!

I think there was only friendship between lupin and lily...lupin wasn´t really popular so he was happy to have such a friend as lily...

I KNEW i saw this somewhere!!! The Leaky Cauldron had a bit about that

-------------------------------------
The Baltimore Sun has a new interview with PoA screenplay writer Steve Kloves. Speaking about Professor Lupin, whom Steve Kloves describes as " Harry's extended family", the article continues:

Kloves says that when he first met Rowling, he told her he intuited that Lily "was quite special" and that James "was complicated." And in the bridge scene, Lupin "illuminates Harry about his mother - the most wonderful thing about her was that she was understanding toward Lupin at a time few were. She saw something special about him when others, including himself, couldn't." Kloves admits, "I think he was in love with her in many ways."--------------------------------------

I was thinking more along the lines of the Hermione/Ron pairing, since it's slightly understated in the book and fairly blatant in the movie...?

hmm...perhaps they are incenting that Lupin could be Harry's real father. but you're right, i don't want to think about it. it'd be too weird now that she's set up this world that has James and Lily as the perfect couple and friends. so, no...along with the fact that Harry looks just like James.

oops, i forgot to say what i meant to. i thought sirius said "I found the rat." referring to peter not as a rat animal, but a rat as in a betrayer of friends.

neither do it, but they hinted, which would be very wrong, because of the fact that Harry's dad would still be alive and such, and then it made me think of the sentence in PoA: "Had Harry's dad really been out there on the grounds tonight?" or something like that. basically, if this turned out to be true, it would kill the story, and most of the HP community would be thouroughly angry with JKR.
