love triangle (yes, ANOTHER one!) hehee

Postby Athena Appleton » Tuesday 9 March 2004 5:57:58am

okay...

I was reading a magazine called Movie Magic, and it's all dedicated to the Harry Potter 3 movie...

They had an interview with the trio, and one of the questions mentioned that "in this movie, you [Emma Watson, Hermione] have a love triangle with Ron and Harry"....

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They never had a love triangle between Ron, Harry and Hermione! The only love triangle was Ron, Krum and Hermione in book 4 (leaking over into book 5)

This makes me nervous.

I completely agree with you. Harry and Hermione have never and should never. I hope that this is just a bad rumor. The new director may have taken liberties but JKR has been very closely associated with the making of these movies. I don't think she would allow something like that. I certianly hope not.

I don't know... I mean, in the third book, her friendship with both of them as individuals gets stronger (like, she starts spending time alone with both of them), and maybe the press just can't tell a difference between friendship and a "love triangle"... but it would just ruin it for me, because I love the fact that Ron and Hermione are so obviously right for each other, and that Harry sometimes gets caught up in the middle... and that Hermione acts as a good sounding board for Harry, but not for Ron...

This is really bugging me, and there's nothing I can do but sit around and wait for June 4. grrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!

Who knows though, maybe jkr allowed the movie to go that direction because its where she is going herself. Like in the second movie they played up the relationship between ron and hermione but jkr didn't do it until book 4 really :???:

What seems obvious to the book readers but not to the press is that (at the moment at least) the relationship between Harry and Hermione is strictly platonic, which is completely not the case with Ron and Hermione. For the fans of HP who haven't read the books the love triangle is a fantastic twist in the tale, whereas for those of us who've read the books its something that just leaves us scratching our heads :???: . My guess is that Cuaron is just being a tease to keep the hype about the movies, but he would never divert completely from the guidelines of the book. At least I hope so :-?

When I went to see it today, I decided there really wasn't a love triangle in the movie, and the press just couldn't figure out that Harry and Hermione are platonic friends who are very close, and therefore hug, protect each other, and occasionally hold hands to keep up with one another while racing through the woods.

When Hermione grabs Ron's hand, it's a very obvious thing, and a very awkward moment. When Hermione and Harry are holding hands running through the forest, it's a complete non-issue. When Buckbeak is "killed," Hermione turns and holds onto Ron, not Harry. It's a fine line there, but I do think they did it in such a way that there's no real love triangle there after all.

That was so well done, and the hand holding thing! And the way he was the only one to notice when she'd suddenly appear. It cracked me up! The fact that he notices small things like that says something too. I can't wait for Ron and Hermoine to realize what's there between them.

I know nobody believes me when I say they're actually dating by OotP, but I think they are...

Starting in PoA, and especially in GoF and OotP, Hermione and Ron spend a lot of time together without Harry around.

Ron's reaction when he hears about Harry's first kiss cracks me up... and makes me think he's somehow comparing it to his first kiss... who else would he be kissing but Hermione? :-)

In GoF, when Harry and Ron aren't speaking to each other, Hermione is obviously spending a lot of time with each of them seperately. Also, when she is going to spend the day at Hogsmeade with Harry, he's suprized, assuming she'd want to spend the Hogsmeade day with Ron. Why would he make that assumption unless he's already realized there's something there between them?

In OotP, the thing that upsets Harry the most at the beginning is that Hermione and Ron are together. We know they are, and that they're spending time together, but they also apparently confide in each other, argue over what's best for Harry, and do some amount of consoling each other (well, the consoling comes later, when Harry takes out his feelings on Ron and Hermione, Ron steps up and speaks for himself and Hermione).

In OotP, I don't think it's that they're dating and trying to keep it a secret... I think it's just a given by that time. Harry knows it's there, but since so much is going on in Harry's life, they try to play it down to keep from adding the third-wheel feeling to his other problems.

Well, that sums it up.

I think there could be something else, you know, like Hermione being a tease and not knowing it. She does hide behind her books. not that she doesn't know about the inner workings of men, but.... Have you ever heard the, well, stereotype that no man can be friends with a woman without thinking of taking it further (unless he's homosexual), but the woman can think they're "just friends"? That's what popped out at me. :-?

Maybe I'm just being naive. :P

they're just a close set of friends for the moment. While I believe that Ron and Hermione will be together in the end I don't think that they're at that point yet. Its clear they're getting closer and closer in that manner but its still a while off yet i think. I also doubt they'd keep something like that from Harry.

I think what Athena said could be the case, but i just think that Hermione and Ron are such a high profile couple-to-be that when they do eventually get together, we will definately know about it. They spend so much time with Harry I don't see how they could possibly hide a relationship from him. As for not wanting to make him feel like a third wheel , Harry's always been both their best friends really, so them going out wouldnt alienate him, just bring Hermione and Ron closer together. Plus when/if Harry finally gets together with Ginny/Luna/whoever it wont matter to him as much.
