I have to agree. Alan Rickman is a great actor, demonstrating his skill in a wide diversity of plots. Die Hard? Yes, a great terrorist which who was actually a great thief. GalaxyQuest... a great actor tied down by actor's paradox - haunting his career forever. And in Snape... somebody you just don't know about... his actions have for both good an evil ... and his actions for good swalllow the doubts.

I cannot help but love Alan Rickman. He's perfect as Snape, although he looks better than real Snape, but I think he's got a wonderful Snape-like voice. And when he battles with Lockheart on that podium, he looks really like Severus. Also Jason Isaacs is great as Lucius (well, with that hair he looks a bit like from L'Oreal add, but that's okay). But most perfect is the boy who plays Ron (I don't remember his name, Rupert?), he's the best.

I too thought Alan Rickman was a great choice for Snape. If you've seen him in Sense and Sensibility where he plays a completely sensitive, compassionate, strong guy, (Colonel Brandon) his selection as Severus Snape who has both good and not so great qualities will make more sense.

Alan Rickman was also interesting in "Love Actually"...he really has great range, as does Maggie Smith. I just saw her in "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood". I love Alan's deep voice and subtle acting (you feel it more than see it, if that makes sense), and I love what a spitfire Maggie seems to be in all of her roles...she keeps it funny in a really sarcastic way. I hear Jason Issacs is going to be in "Peter Pan" which comes out soon...

There are so many good choices for actors and actresses in the Harry Potter films it would be hard to name them all! And the kids seem to be getting more and more comfortable in the roles as time goes on...can't wait for movie #3!

Jason Isaacs was wonderful in Peter Pan. *Rev Mom has ankle-biters at home who had to see Peter Pan on Christmas Day* He has a nice range also although we usually only see him in the less savory characters. (The Patriot with Mel Gibson is a good example here.)

Would love to see, Love Actually. *Alas, alas, Rev Mom lives in a very tiny town that only has one theater and gets "mass population" movies*

Maggie Smith is good in virtually everything she does, I believe. I loved her as the cousin in A Room with a View.

Love Actually is a "mass population" movie if you live in a medium to large city with more than one theater. My town is exactly that, a "town," with about 30,000 people in it and one movie theater that will show six movies. Most of the selections are the kinds of movies where girls are screaming and buildings are blowing up. If it requires thinking or class, it probably won't come here unless it's on the "mass population" level of Star Wars or HP.

Peter Pan is very different than the prior released versions. It's a bit closer to JM Barrie's story, and introduces (very subtly-my kids are 7,5 and didn't notice this at all) a little of that preteen sensuality. (Peter and Wendy kiss) It also brings front and center the idea that loving and having feelings for others, is part of growing up.

"Hook" remains my favorite because of the grown-up Pan/life is more than work element, but I liked this version too. The mermaids were very creepy. My kids are still talking about them.
